The beginning of the Advent period has always meant a time of peace before the big holidays of the year – Christmas Eve and Christmas. At this time, it is customary to refrain not only from entertainment, but also from meat dishes. We offer you to try 4 easy-to-prepare recipes for sandwiches with fish, which will be suitable not only for Advent, but also for the festive breakfast table.
“Fresh sandwiches are one of the most popular snacks consumed throughout the year – we choose them not only for breakfast, but also when traveling or for a quick snack. The pre-holiday period is already full of work and things that we want to finish before Christmas, so it is not surprising that we tend to choose fast-prepared food”, says Ramunė Puzinienė, Head of New Product Development at “Mantinga” – the manufacturer of bread, snacks and frozen products.
According to her, although sandwiches with meat products are very popular in Lithuania, sandwiches with fried, smoked or salted fish are more suitable during Advent.
Hot dog with fried fish and mango
Ingredients: hot dog bun, tilapia fillet (100 g), half a mango, mayonnaise (1 spoon), mild mustard (1 spoon), a dash of oil, salt, black pepper, lemon juice, chopped hot pepper and fresh coriander.
Preparation: sprinkle the tilapia fillet with oil, season with salt and pepper and bake in the oven or steam for about 10 minutes. Cut half of the peeled mango into small cubes, sprinkle with lemon juice and mix with chopped hot pepper. Mix mayonnaise with mustard and spread inside the hot dog bun. Place the cooked fish, mangoes and sprinkle with chopped coriander in the bun.
Sandwich with egg, beetroot and smoked mackerel
Ingredients: 1 spelled bread with beets, 1 boiled egg, 1 boiled beet, 50 g of cold smoked mackerel, 1 spoon of mayonnaise, fresh coriander for decoration.
Preparation: cut the bread lengthwise and spread it with mayonnaise. Place the sliced mackerel on top and the sliced egg and beetroot on top. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and cover with the remaining bread.
Toast with anchovies and mango-tomato salad
Ingredients: dark bread ciabatta, 1 mango, 3-4 tomatoes of different colors, 50 g of anchovy fillet in oil, a few sprigs of fresh basil, 1 clove of garlic, a dash of olive oil, salt, black pepper.
Preparation: cut the bread into large slices and toast them, then rub them with a clove of garlic. Peel the mango and cut it into cubes. Also cut the tomatoes into cubes and mix them with the mangoes and basil leaves - season this salad with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper. Place a spoonful of tomato and mango salad on the prepared toasts and arrange the anchovies.
