Growing consumer interest in vegan diets is driving change in the food and beverage industry as well. “Mantinga”, the largest producer of bread, snacks and frozen products in the Baltic States, is one of the first to introduce vegan donuts.
In the past year, “Mantinga” introduced a number of new products that quickly established themselves on the market – last year there were more than 100 of them in total. Following new trends, the needs of consumers following a vegan diet were also taken into account.
“Last year, we created and offered to the market a vegan cake and a vegan croissant, which can also be purchased in the stores of major Lithuanian retail chains. Seeing how eagerly consumers choose these products, we decided to expand the range of vegan products and introduce the first industrially produced vegan doughnuts”, comments Ramunė Puzinienė, manager of new product development at “Mantinga”.
According to her, when creating vegan products, the aim is to ensure that they are not inferior to traditional products in terms of taste, appearance or structure.
“The process of perfecting the vegan donut recipe and production took more than half a year. First of all, it was necessary to find suitable raw materials that would meet the principles of vegan nutrition, then create a recipe and adapt it to the existing production technology, so that we could offer consumers a truly high-quality product that would please not only by its appearance, but also by its taste.”, – says R. Puzinienė.
First “Mantinga” vegan donuts come in two flavors: tropical fruit – mango and dragon fruit, and one of the most popular – bubblegum. Both donuts are hidden under “Mantinga” DONUT brand “Ring Of Joy”. It is planned that the range of vegan donuts will be expanded, and raw materials for new flavors are currently being sought. Vegan pizzas, sandwiches, and other savory products may also appear in the future.
